Interview Tips

Preparing for a Data Centre Project Interview

What interviewers on mission-critical projects look for, and how to prepare your answers.

Data centre projects run to fixed energisation dates in live, high-consequence environments. Interviewers want evidence that you can deliver under that pressure safely and to specification.

Know the project

  • Who the client and contractor are, and the size and phase of the project

  • Which package or system the role covers

  • Whether the role is permanent, contract or rotation, and what that involves

Prepare three project stories

Pick three projects that best match the role. For each, be ready to explain the situation, what you did, and the result. Include one where something went wrong and how you recovered it.

Expect questions on

  • Safe systems of work, permits and working near live systems

  • Coordinating with other trades, the client and commissioning agents

  • Managing programme pressure without cutting corners

  • The systems you know: critical power, cooling, BMS or controls

Ask good questions

Ask about the team you would join, the programme and the next phase. It shows you are thinking about delivery, not just the offer.
